Have you ever considered taking part in a personal challenge this year, such as running your first 10k, a marathon, bike ride or something totally extreme!? Why not enjoy these adventures AND raise funds for The Yard, at the same time?
It’s no lie that as a charity we need to raise vital funds to run our services at The Yard. While we do get a small amount of funding from the City of Edinburgh Council, the rest of our funding has to be raised from our own efforts. But, with your support we can make that happen.
Throughout the year, we organise charity places at marathons, abseils, bike rides and a whole host of other events – giving you the opportunity to take on a personal challenge and raise funds for the children and families who need our services.
If you’re up for the challenge, we have a list of exciting events that you can get stuck into this year:
Sat 28 & Sun 29: – Edinburgh Marathon Festival
The EMF is Scotland’s largest running festival of its kind with over 30,000 runners expected to take part in 2015. With 7 races on offer over two days including the marathon, half marathon, team relay, 10k, 5k and junior races. We’re looking for people of all ages to compete.
Sat 28: – COLOUR ME RAD 5K – Ingliston, Edinburgh
Do you fancy taking on the most colourful 5K in town? Then this is the event for you. Grab your friends and family get colour bombed with all the colours under the rainbow!
Sun 26: – Forth Rail Bridge Abseil
We have places at the Rotary Club of South Queensferry annual abseil who are raising funds for The Yard. Are you brave enough to abseil of the Forth Rail Bridge? You have to be over 16 and all we ask is that you raise a minimum of £150 sponsorship.
Sun 26: – Tough Mudder
This year the event has moved to Drumlanrig Castle in Dumfies and Galloway. This is a hardcore 12 mile long obstacle course designed by the Special Forces so why not get a team together and take part, push yourself to the limit and raise funds for The Yard?
Sun 7: – Tour O The Borders
Enjoy cycling round The Borders in this fabulous event with closed roads. There is a longer and shorter route, amazing scenery and some steep climbs!
Fri 26 & Sat 27: – Great Scottish Swim (5k, ½ mile, 1 mile or 2 miles) at Loch Lomond
In the majestic surroundings of Loch Lomond and the Trossachs National Park – swimmers can choose from 5k, ½ mile, 1 mile and 2 mile swims. There is also team challenge, where you can enter teams of 4-8 people in the 1 mile challenge.
Sun 18: – Scottish Half Marathon & 10k
This fast and flat course is perfect for a PB in both the half marathon and the 10k event. It runs along the beautiful East Lothian Coast before finishing at the Musselburgh Race Course. Fabulous!
Sun 18: – The Edinburgh Kiltwalk
Walkers, don your Kilts and leave Murrayfield to make the 26 mile loop journey around our beautiful capital city, taking in some of Edinburghs best views and sights to help raise monies for The Yard.
Sun 25: – Loch Ness Marathon
If you fancy running the length of Loch Ness and maybe spot Nessie then this is the event for you! Take part in the full or half marathon, 10k or relay event.
Sun 23: – Men’s Health Survival of the Fittest
A colossal 10k urban assault course epic around town, includes the ‘Braveheart Charge’ down the Royal Mile. One for which grit, determination, team effort and lots of stamina are required!
Sat 12: – Supanova Run at The Kelpies
A fabulous opportunity to run a 5k amongst the Kelpies at night in this exciting event. So grab a torch and get running for The Yard!
